Pantone colours of the year, Illuminating and Ultimate Grey.

Post Decorating with Pantone’s Colour of the Year

The easing of restrictions feels like a fresh start – like life is finally going back to how it was pre-pandemic. Many people will be taking this time to re-invent themselves and refresh their homes. After spending so much time indoors for the last 18 months, it’s only natural to want to change things up and make your house feel more like a comforting space, rather than a place you have to be.

A good way to spruce up your home is by decorating with the Pantone Colour of the Year, or rather both of them. For 2021, Pantone has selected two colours for their annual colour of the year: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating. Pantone said of their chosen colours, “We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.”

It’s a sentiment we can all share, and one that is befitting of a home, but just how can you incorporate the trendiest colours into your house?

Painting the Walls

For a long time, grey has been the ‘in’ colour. It goes with practically every other shade possible, making it a popular choice for home interiors. Ultimate Gray is a cool shade that can fit seamlessly with any home décor. Whether you like your home to be minimalistic and relaxed or vibrant and full of hidden treasures, Ultimate Gray can do both.

On the other hand, Illuminating is a beautiful bright shade but one that’s not offensive or harsh on the eye. Adding a coat to your living room walls will instantly give the room more character and charm. What’s more, although Illuminating is yellow, it can be paired with almost every other colour, including green, teal and blue.

Updating Furniture

You don’t necessarily need to go out and buy new furniture to give your home a makeover. You can use what you have and paint it to refresh the look and finish. Ultimate Gray is a brilliant choice for furniture because it’s universal, whilst Illuminating provides a unique and chic option that will make your furniture stand out and spark feelings of joy every time you walk by.

Complementary Soft Furnishings

For those looking for a way to bring both colours together or a more subtle way to introduce them to their home, soft furnishings are a good option. Nothing ties a room together more than small accents, including curtains and blinds. They frame windows and add depth to walls, making them the perfect way to introduce Pantone’s Colour of the Year to your home without having to make huge changes to your overall décor. Finish off with blankets, cushions and throws, and your home will not only feel cosier and refreshed, but it will look effortlessly stylish and contemporary, too.

Ultimate Gray and Illuminating look great together, so why not try and use both in your home? You could use Ultimate Gray on the walls and furniture and Illuminating on your soft furnishings. Simple, stylish and effective.
